I just finished reading a great book that I heard about on National Public Radio (my favorite source of news and info). The book is by LOVE LINE cohost Dr. Drew Pinsky and is titled "Cracked: Putting Broken Lives Together" and published by Regan Books. "Cracked" is about Dr. Pinsky's experience as a doctor for a addiction treatment center at a hospital in Southern California. He relates what he has learned during his years of treating people whose lives have fallen apart through the effects of drug abuse. It's a very uplifting book.
Years ago, I regularly took part in leading a chapel service once a week at a drug rehab center as a part of our Church outreach. I had been somewhat familiar with drug rehab treatment programs through that experience but Dr. Pinsky gives a more complete yet very readable and medically grounded explanation of the causes of addiction and what it takes for recovery. It touches on the importance of relationships, boundaries and healthy choices. Excellent book.
On somewhat obliquely related subject, I am including a Google Drive Link to a re-formatted paper wrote in college about the psychological benefits of self-portraiture -- officially titled "Psychodynamic Processes of Self Portraiture".
