May 21, 2011 was predicted to be Judgement Day from God by religious leader Harold Camping.
I posted the above art with the exhortation to "Hug an Apocalypto-fringe fanatic today. They're going to need it." because, obviously, no Judgement Day occurred.
I'm updating this post for May 24th 2017. No explicit predictions are being made but with the U.S. Presidential administration of Donald Trump a few months under way, world events during his disruptive watch are eliciting Apocalyptic-level dread.
So, I've decided to update this post accordingly and add some additional background info about the art.
Originally made for a black-and-white editorial format, this is an ink drawing I did years ago. I recently scanned it and added the monotone colors digitally.
As one might presume, it was to highlight Apocalyptic beliefs held by fringe fanatics.
Along with the final drawing, I've included below two preparatory sketches. You can see that I originally was thinking of using rather Hindu imagery for the main figure. Then I decided on the classic, Westernized "Da Vinci"-style figure.
October 2017 Update: Another "End of the World" prediction for September 23rd has come and gone. But hold on! There is a follow-up Apocalyptic date set for October 15th!
So get your affairs in order. Or not. I can predict with certainty that End-of-the-World predictions will continue.... until the End of The World.
