"Don't Crush" Say Today's Recyclers

"Just put the lid on the empty plastic bottles and leave them as-is when you toss them in the bin, thank you."

UPDATE: A reliable source has told me that the reason recycling processors want us to not crush plastic bottles before we put them in the bin is that the automatic sensors on the machinery that helps recycle them is programed to recognize and identify only the un-smashed bottle shapes. Sounds pretty lame to me but it might be the case.

With that in mind here's a tweet that promotes returning to the more easily recyclable aluminum containers:
