Cold War Editorial Cartoon 1986

Artwork © 1986, 2015 by O. Douglas Jennings

It's odd to recall how scary the last days of the Cold War seemed at the time. I made this political cartoon just 3 years before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Soviets had finally chosen a leader that was not an old geezer and had some media savvy. So the wrangling over the airwaves between Reagan ("The Great Communicator"), and his Soviet counterpart was high public relations drama back in the day. I created this in pen/brush and ink then applied zipatone screen for the gray shading. It was first published in Caleb Issues & Answers a Christian youth outreach newspaper.
