The Curious Case of the Free Trump Coin

A work colleague of mine who’s a Trump supporter (!), was ordering a Trump hat online and saw an offer for a “free” coin that has the Presidential Seal on one side and words “Trump -2020- Keep America Great 45” on the other side (photo below). He enthusiastically clicked on the free coin offer and looked forward to getting his order in the mail.

Meanwhile, when he got his credit card bill for the purchase he found he was charged $55 dollars on top of the charge for the hat ($70 total)!

He found that the fine print under the “Free” coin offer was that buyers of 14 (!) coins at $3.93 each ($55!) will get an EXTRA single coin “Free”.

He contacted the vendor who refunded his money to his card (fortunately). But due to the fact that the shipment had already gone out he received his hat AND 14 coins in the mail! A day later got a single shipment of the single extra "Free" coin.

So what looks worse: The shady way the Trump campaign tricks people into over-paying for merchandise OR the sloppy way they handle transactions and give it away? LOL!

And I wonder --has a coin bearing the official seal of the office of POTUS ever been used in election campaigns like this prior to Trump? His supporters seem to like such symbols of Trump's power.

So he brought the coin to me and asked if I wanted one. I accepted the coin because of the story and the history. Hopefully it will be an artifact of a failed re-election campaign for POTUS 45.

The Trump 2020 coin is 1.5" in diameter. NOTE: I added the red crossbar symbol to reflect my opinion of POTUS45

There is another historic coin that resonates strongly with "America First" Trump supporters:
